Our 5-y-o Samsung was having trouble draining, so I opened up the lines and boot under the drum. Good discussion about cleaning front loaders, but there is another even more important reason. I'd say run yours into the dirt if you like it. I'd rather not have replaced ours, especially due to the price, but our washer destroyed itself with my help so repairing it would have cost almost as much. Overall, I'd say they're really cool, seem well engineered, and seem like they will last a good amount of time. Also has a setting for like shrink-prone sports wear, which is nice for me. It also has some neat cycles, like a short steam cycle to get out wrinkles, or a high heat steam cycle to help sanitize gross clothes. Other than that, it seems like it dries way faster, clothes take about 50 minutes instead of 90 in our old dryer (which was just a cheap GE). But again, I just downloaded a low-heat cycle and use that instead, so it's mainly just a minor inconvenience. I get the reasoning that high-heat short-cycle is probably more energy efficient, but I'd like to be able to run with the sensor on low-heat for most of my clothes to make sure nothing shrinks in a larger load. Using the sensor-based cycles I can't adjust the heat, only the dryness level. I likely would not have been able to fit the bed in our last washing machine regardless.ĭryer has some quirks I don't like. I've had a few things that were tougher to wash (dog bed that our puppy peed on, for instance), but found there is a "deep wash" addon that increases the water level for bulky items, and some other settings that made it way easier.

You can also download new cycles, which is neat. Took a bit to get used to the difference in settings (you select cycles instead of manually doing temperature/speed/etc), but they cover about everything I need and most are customization as needed. I also really like the detergent tray, since it stays significantly more clean than the little pour spots in the old washer. We had a direct drive before, but this just seems on another level of the speeds it can produce during the spin cycle to reduce the load on the dryer. From an engineer/mechanical standpoint I love that the motor is attached directly to the drum. Regular loads don't seem any less clean, but use way less water. I didn't think I'd like the impeller, but I really enjoy clothes not randomly catching on it and getting destroyed, having more tub capacity, and being able to load/unload everything more easily. We recently upgraded from a like late 90s/early 2000s top loader to an HE LG top loader with an impeller.
